Mexico’s World Cup clash with England could be moved to an earlier kick-off time because of severe weather concerns in Mexico City.

The Round of 16 match is scheduled to take place at Estadio Azteca, but reports say FIFA is considering bringing the game forward due to the risk of thunderstorms, lightning, and possible flooding around the original evening kick-off window. Reuters reported that FIFA was looking at potential changes to the Mexico vs England fixture, although no final confirmation had been made at the time of reporting.

The match was originally expected to kick off at 6 p.m. local time, which would be 1 a.m. in the UK. A possible change could move the match to around noon local time, creating a much earlier kick-off for international viewers. The Guardian also reported that the Football Association was surprised by the potential change and that both teams may have to adjust preparations quickly.

Weather has already affected matches during the tournament. Previous games have faced delays because of storms and lightning risks, and tournament organizers have been operating under severe weather protocols. TNT Sports reported that World Cup stadiums are required to have risk management and evacuation procedures in place for lightning and severe weather.

A daytime kick-off would also create different playing conditions. Mexico City’s altitude already presents a challenge, especially for England, while an earlier match could mean stronger sunlight and warmer conditions. This may add another layer of difficulty for both teams in a high-pressure knockout fixture.

For now, supporters are waiting for official confirmation from FIFA. Any change would affect team preparation, broadcast schedules, and travel plans for fans heading to Estadio Azteca.
