The 2026/27 Premier League season will begin with a major opening-night fixture as defending champions Arsenal host newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21. The match is scheduled for an 8pm kick-off and will officially launch the new campaign.
Arsenal will enter the season under immediate pressure as they begin their title defence in front of their home supporters. Coventry, meanwhile, return to the Premier League after a long absence and will face one of the toughest possible starts against the champions.
The opening weekend also includes several exciting fixtures. Hull City host Manchester United, Brentford face Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City begin at home against Bournemouth, Newcastle United welcome Liverpool to St James’ Park, and Fulham meet Chelsea in a London derby.
Liverpool’s trip to Newcastle is one of the standout games of the first round. Both clubs will want a strong start, and an early test at St James’ Park could set the tone for their season. Manchester United’s visit to promoted Hull City is another match that will attract attention, especially as United look to avoid an early slip.
The season starts slightly later than usual because of the 2026 World Cup, giving clubs a shorter turnaround before domestic football returns. The full Premier League campaign will run until Sunday, May 30, 2027, when all final-day matches are expected to kick off at the same time.
As always, fixtures may still change due to live TV selections, cup competitions, and club schedules. But the opening weekend already gives fans plenty to look forward to, with title contenders, promoted clubs, and major rivalries all involved from the start.
